The Sex Files

The Sex Files was created from November, 2014 to January, 2015, shaped by In The Bush collective meetups, workshops, and hangouts. The content is compiled out of over 100 anonymous submissions. We mined through ancient emotional and sexual archives accidentally left behind in the Big Database in the Cloud. What could we learn from excavating these memories? Is this how we are to remember the sexual intimacies of our youth in 40 years? How do these images empower, embarrass, and arouse us today? In The Bush explores these themes in a purposefully non-professional way, including activists, artists, writers, proficient sexters and the camera-shy in our process. None of the photos in this ‘zine were ever meant for the public eye. We reclaim the ‘nood’ and celebrate the amateur photographer and the vulnerability of presenting yourself to the camera. This demonstration will go through the data-mining process, production workshops, and final form of the ‘zine.

Biography

In the Bush is a creative feminist collective that embodies the spirit of the bush — free, untamed, flowing, a little gross, and up for interpretation. Our aim is to destabilize socially sanctioned categories through community art-making and discussion. Catch us in a virtual show with Coven Berlin this spring, pick up one of our ‘zines, or stop by for a discussion night in Vancouver. (Inthebushzine@gmail.com)
